Auto electrician Kraków — electrical diagnostics and repair

Battery, alternator, computer diagnostics, central locking, immobiliser — diagnosed with an oscilloscope and wiring diagrams, not guesswork

Engine warning light on, battery flat after a few days, central locking working randomly — these are the faults Kraków drivers bring to us every week. SMotors at ul. Dobrego Pasterza in Prądnik Czerwony and ul. Makuszyńskiego in Nowa Huta uses multi-brand scanners (Launch X431, Texa Multidiag), an oscilloscope for CAN-BUS signal analysis and a battery tester producing a CCA printout. We replace SLI, EFB and AGM batteries with mandatory BMS registration — the step most cheap workshops skip and which costs customers half the life of their new battery. We recondition alternators and starters, repair wiring, programme remotes and immobilisers. Full computer diagnostics from 99 PLN, same-day appointments available.

Electrical faults that Kraków drivers bring to us — from warning lights to dead AGM batteries

OBD computer diagnostics — full scan of all control units from 99 PLN

Computer diagnostics is not just "plugging in OBD". We scan all control units: engine (ECU), braking system (ABS/ESP), airbags (SRS), body control module (BCM), immobiliser (IMMO), gearbox (DSG/AT), emissions systems (EGR, DPF) and air conditioning. We read active and stored faults, live data and adaptations — and hand you a printed report. Price: 99 PLN.

AGM / EFB battery — replacement with BMS registration

Replacing a battery without BMS registration is a mistake that can shorten the life of the new battery by up to 50%. The BMS controller manages the charging strategy and must "know" a new unit has been fitted. We diagnose battery condition with a tester producing a CCA printout, fit the correct type (SLI / EFB / AGM) and register via OBD. We also check quiescent current — if it exceeds 50 mA, we find the cause.

Alternator and starter — reconditioning or replacement

Alternator not charging? Voltage below 13.8 V or above 14.7 V is a warning sign. We recondition alternators (brushes, voltage regulator, diodes, windings) for a fraction of the cost of a new one. Starters — especially those dedicated to start-stop systems — are diagnosed and reconditioned or replaced. Voltage check is free.

Central locking, immobiliser, PDC, reversing camera

A central locking system that works randomly is a classic wiring or CAN-BUS fault. Immobilisers blocking start-up after a battery change, remotes out of range, PDC parking sensors giving false signals — we diagnose using wiring diagrams and an oscilloscope, not guesswork. We also fit reversing cameras and PDC kits.

Wiring, CAN-BUS, module coding — all brands

A modern car is a network of control units communicating via CAN-BUS, LIN and FlexRay. A fault in one module can "block" the entire network — standard OBD will not show this. We diagnose with an oscilloscope and multi-brand scanners (Launch X431, Texa Multidiag) using Autodata wiring diagrams. Toyota, Ford, BMW, Mercedes, Opel, Renault, Kia, Hyundai — we service all brands except VAG, which has its own dedicated VCDS/ODIS bay.

How electrical repair works at SMotors

  1. 1.

OBD diagnostics — full scan of all control units

We connect a multi-brand scanner to the OBD-II port and read faults from all control units — not just the engine. You receive a printed report with codes and descriptions.

  2. 2.

Advanced diagnosis — oscilloscope and wiring diagrams

If the scanner does not point to a clear cause, we use an oscilloscope and wiring diagrams. We check sensor signals and CAN-BUS communication — not by trial and error.

  3. 3.

    Written quote before repair

Before starting any repair we provide a written quote with scope of work, parts cost and labour. No hidden charges.

  4. 4.

    Repair using the correct parts

We replace the AGM/EFB battery, recondition the alternator, repair wiring or code modules — as agreed in the quote.

  5. 5.

    Post-repair check and collection

After repair we re-scan all control units, check charging voltage and quiescent current. Same-day collection.

Why Kraków car owners choose SMotors for electrical repairs

Frequently asked questions about car electrics

How much does a car computer diagnostic cost?

A full OBD-II scan of all control units (ECU, ABS, SRS, ESP, BCM, IMMO, DSG, EGR) costs 99 PLN. You receive a printed report with fault codes and recommended repairs.

What does the engine warning light mean?

A warning light can mean anything from a loose fuel cap to a serious sensor failure. Only an OBD-II scan reading active and stored faults will tell you exactly what is wrong.

Can I just swap the battery, or is extra work needed?

We replace the battery and register it in the BMS system via OBD. Without this step the charging controller does not "know" the battery is new and can shorten its life by up to half. Most cheap workshops skip this step.

How much does AGM battery replacement cost?

An AGM battery costs 600–800 PLN depending on capacity. Labour is 100–200 PLN. Add BMS registration (~50 PLN) — total 750–1000 PLN for a correctly performed service.

Why does the radio and central locking stop working after a battery change?

After disconnecting the battery, control units lose their adaptations and codes. The radio may need its code, electric windows may need an initialisation procedure, and start-stop may need relearning. Correct replacement with BMS registration minimises these issues.

How much does alternator reconditioning cost and is it worth it?

Alternator reconditioning means replacing carbon brushes, the voltage regulator and rectifier diodes. It costs 150–395 PLN — far less than a new alternator (600–1200 PLN). We check charging voltage free of charge at every visit.

The battery goes flat after a few days of standing — what could it be?

Quiescent current above 50 mA means one of the modules is not sleeping properly. We trace the cause methodically by pulling fuses one by one and measuring current — not by guesswork.
