The catalytic converter, the diesel particulate filter (DPF), the lambda sensors and the EGR valve are all controlled by the engine computer, so on petrol and diesel cars of all makes, exhaust repair starts with computer diagnostics and an inspection on the lift.

Loud or holed silencer
Exhaust getting louder or hissing from under the car? We replace centre and rear silencers (mufflers).
Rattling and blowing near the engine
The flex pipe isolates the exhaust from engine vibration. When it wears out, the exhaust rattles and fumes escape before the catalytic converter. We replace it.
DPF warning light and limp mode
We read the fault codes and how full the filter is, then run a forced regeneration or clean the filter. When one is enough and when you need the other is explained below.
Fault code P0420 or rattling under the car
These are typical symptoms of a damaged catalytic converter, often together with a loss of power. We confirm the fault with diagnostics and an exhaust gas measurement, and replace a damaged catalytic converter.
Higher fuel consumption and rough running
Together with the check engine light, these are typical symptoms of a worn lambda sensor. We replace sensors upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter – a faulty sensor left for too long can destroy the catalytic converter.
Loss of power, smoke, limp mode
The culprit is often an EGR valve clogged with soot and stuck open or closed – the control unit then stores exhaust gas recirculation flow faults, such as P0401. We diagnose the valve and replace it.

Service Price ListDPF: forced regeneration, cleaning or replacement?
The DPF traps soot from diesel exhaust and burns it off on its own from time to time. For this, the exhaust gas has to heat up above 550°C, which mainly happens on longer drives out of town. On short trips around Kraków the regeneration is often interrupted, soot builds up and the DPF warning light comes on.
If the filter holds mostly soot, a computer-forced DPF regeneration (burn-off) is enough. But ash from engine oil also builds up in the filter, and it can't be burned off. When there's too much of it, the filter has to be removed and cleaned. A cracked or melted filter core can only be replaced.
Before you decide, we check how full the filter is and look for the cause of the clogging. A clean filter will soon clog again if the EGR valve, an injector or the pressure sensor is at fault. Our car mechanic fixes injection faults, and our auto electrician the sensors and wiring.

How much does exhaust repair or silencer replacement cost?
Labour prices are in the price list. The cost of parts depends on the car model, so you get a free repair quote before we start.
Can I drive with a holed silencer?
Better not. A leaking exhaust is a defect at the Polish vehicle inspection, and fumes getting into the cabin are a health hazard. An exhaust that is too loud also breaks the rules on permitted noise levels.
DPF warning light on – what should I do?
Usually a longer drive out of town is enough: at least 15 minutes at a steady speed and higher revs, so the filter can regenerate. The exact conditions are in your car's manual. If the light doesn't go out, starts flashing or the car goes into limp mode, bring it to the workshop.
What are the symptoms of a clogged DPF?
The DPF warning light, loss of power or limp mode, and more frequent regenerations – higher idle speed, the fan running after the engine is switched off, start-stop not working. Typical fault codes are P2002 and P2463.
Is DPF removal legal in Poland?
No. A car must meet emission standards, and at the Polish vehicle inspection the inspector checks that the factory emission control devices are in place and working, and reads the OBD fault codes. The police can retain the registration certificate of a car that doesn't meet environmental requirements. We don't remove DPFs or catalytic converters, and we don't blank off EGR valves.
Does an aftermarket catalytic converter need type approval?
Yes. A replacement catalytic converter for a passenger car must be type-approved under UNECE Regulation No. 103 – you can tell by the “E” mark with a country number and the 103R marking.
