For years Skoda has been the best-selling Volkswagen Group make in Poland – in 2024 alone, over 60,000 new ones were registered, and the Octavia was the country's second best-selling car. In Kraków and across Małopolska you see Skodas everywhere: long-term rentals, company fleets, taxis, and cars in classified ads that came off lease three years ago. We know this market. We service ex-fleet Skodas with 150,000 km on the clock, family Kodiaqs bought through a business, and first-owner Fabias that have just had a full service. You get computer diagnostics with the official SFD unlock, genuine parts or proven OEM alternatives, and a clear quote before any work starts.

We service the whole Skoda range

We service the full Skoda range: Fabia I, II and III, Octavia I, II, III and IV, Superb II and III, Rapid, Scala, Kamiq, Karoq and Kodiaq – with TSI and TDI engines and DSG gearboxes. Skoda shares its technology with Volkswagen, but its cars are used differently and develop different faults. That is why it makes sense to specialise in Skoda.

Common Skoda faults

Each of these faults has its own pattern, because Skodas have a typical history: fleet cars, family cars, taxis and high-mileage ex-fleet cars.

1.2 TSI (EA111) timing chain – Fabia II, Octavia II, Yeti

The best-known Skoda fault of the past decade. 1.2 TSI engines built before week 45 of 2011 have a hydraulic tensioner that lets the chain stretch if oil changes are neglected – the timing jumps and the valves bend. We replace the complete timing drive in one go – chain, tensioner, guides and sprockets – using timing locking tools and a dial gauge. A preventive replacement costs several times less than a cylinder head rebuild after a failure.

1.4 TSI (EA211) water pump – Fabia III, Octavia III, Superb III

The plastic housing of the water pump and thermostat module is a well-known weak spot of the EA211 engine. The pump can start leaking even at low mileage, and drivers often notice only when the temperature gauge starts jumping on the motorway. We replace the complete water pump and thermostat module together with its drive belt. A preventive repair costs a fraction of rebuilding an overheated engine. You'll find water pump and timing drive replacement prices on our car mechanic page.

DSG DQ200 gearbox – Fabia, Octavia, Scala, Kamiq, Karoq

The seven-speed dry-clutch DSG DQ200, fitted with 1.0–1.6 TSI/TDI engines, is prone to failures of the mechatronic unit's hydraulic block: pressure loss, codes P189C and P17BF, juddering when pulling away and, in extreme cases, a locked gearbox. A worn clutch can also cause juddering. We diagnose the gearbox, replace clutches and carry out adaptations in-house. The mechatronic unit is repaired by a specialist: you leave the car with us and we arrange for it to be reconditioned rather than replacing the whole module. Once it is refitted, we carry out the DSG adaptation and a road test. Our DSG service page explains how we service these gearboxes.

2.0 TDI (EA189) oil pump drive shaft – the "pencil" – Octavia, Superb, Yeti

A problem well known on Polish car forums: the oil pump drive shaft in 2.0 TDI engines, nicknamed the "pencil" in Poland, wears down together with its seat in the balance shaft. The result is oil starvation and a seized turbocharger or engine. The fault tends to appear from 150,000 km onwards – exactly the mileage at which most ex-fleet Octavias and Superbs are resold. We check the drive shaft and replace it if it is worn. When buying a used Skoda with this engine, having it checked is a must.

EGR, intake manifold and DPF – 2.0 TDI diesel (Octavia II/III, Superb II/III)

A diesel Octavia or Superb coming off a three-year fleet lease has done thousands of kilometres on the motorway and as many in city traffic – ideal conditions for EGR carbon to clog the intake manifold and for DPF regenerations every 400–500 km. Depending on the fault, we ultrasonically clean or replace the EGR valve, EGR cooler and intake manifold. We carry out computer-forced DPF regeneration, and if too much ash has built up, we arrange chemical cleaning of the filter at a Bosch Service workshop. Computer diagnostics lets us assess the filter's condition without removing it. We explain when DPF regeneration is enough and when cleaning is needed on our DPF cleaning page.

Diagnostics and tools for Skoda

We carry out computer diagnostics and DSG adaptations, and use timing locking tools and a dial gauge for EA111, EA211, EA189 and EA888 engines. On the Octavia III we calibrate the Climatronic flap motors; on the Octavia II we diagnose the air conditioning compressor control valve. Every Skoda leaves us after a road test and a second fault memory scan. You can read more about automatic climate control and compressors on our car air conditioning service page.

Why an independent workshop instead of the dealer – facts, not marketing

  • The same genuine VAG parts as the dealer, or proven OEM alternatives
  • Full computer diagnostics with the official SFD unlock – we read data a standard OBD scanner can't see
  • Two workshops in Kraków – in Nowa Huta and Prądnik Czerwony – open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM–10:00 PM
