Loud exhaust, knocking from under the car or a DPF warning light? We replace silencers, flex pipes, catalytic converters and lambda sensors, clean and replace EGR valves, repair AdBlue systems and carry out forced DPF regeneration or arrange filter cleaning.
The catalytic converter, the diesel particulate filter (DPF), the AdBlue system, the lambda sensors and the EGR valve are all controlled by the engine computer, so on petrol and diesel cars of all makes, exhaust repair starts with computer diagnostics and an inspection on the lift.
Exhaust faults we repair
Loud or holed silencer
Exhaust getting louder or hissing from under the car? We replace centre and rear silencers.
Rattling and blowing near the engine
The flex pipe isolates the exhaust from engine vibration. When it wears out, the exhaust rattles and fumes escape before the catalytic converter. We replace it.
DPF warning light and limp mode
We read the fault codes and how full the filter is, then run a forced regeneration or arrange filter cleaning. See our DPF cleaning and regeneration page for details.
Fault code P0420 or rattling under the car
These can indicate a damaged catalytic converter, but an exhaust leak or a faulty lambda sensor can also trigger P0420. Before replacing it, we confirm the fault with diagnostics and an exhaust gas measurement, and only replace a catalytic converter that is damaged.
Higher fuel consumption and rough running
Together with the check engine light, these are typical symptoms of a worn lambda sensor. We replace sensors upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter – a faulty sensor left for too long can destroy the catalytic converter.
Loss of power, smoke, limp mode
The culprit is often an EGR valve clogged with soot and stuck open or closed – the control unit then stores exhaust gas recirculation flow faults, such as P0401. Depending on the fault, we ultrasonically clean or replace the EGR valve, its cooler or the intake manifold.
The DPF traps soot from diesel exhaust and burns it off on its own from time to time, but on short trips around Kraków regeneration is often interrupted and the DPF warning light comes on. We then run a computer-forced regeneration or, if too much ash has built up, arrange chemical cleaning at a Bosch Service workshop. Our DPF cleaning and regeneration page explains when each option is needed and how we find the cause of the clogging.
Exhaust repair questions
How much does exhaust repair or silencer replacement cost?
Labour prices are in the price list. The cost of parts depends on the car model, so you get a free repair quote before we start.
Can I drive with a holed silencer?
Better not. A leaking exhaust is a defect at the Polish vehicle inspection, and fumes getting into the cabin are a health hazard. An exhaust that is too loud also breaks the rules on permitted noise levels.
Is removing a catalytic converter or blanking off the EGR legal in Poland?
No. A car must meet emission standards, and at the Polish vehicle inspection the inspector checks that the factory emission control devices are in place and working. We do not remove catalytic converters or DPFs, and we do not blank off EGR valves.
Do you repair AdBlue systems?
Yes. We diagnose the AdBlue pump, heater and injector, as well as NOx sensors. We repair the faulty part if possible, or replace it if not. We don't disable AdBlue systems.
Does an aftermarket catalytic converter need type approval?
Yes. A replacement catalytic converter for a passenger car must be type-approved under UNECE Regulation No. 103 – you can tell by the “E” mark with a country number and the 103R marking.
