Do you drive an Audi A4 B8 or Q5 with the 2.0 TFSI and hear a knocking noise on a cold start? SMotors in Kraków is a workshop that knows Audi inside out – from the CAEB engine to the S tronic DL501 gearbox. We work with the official SFD unlock and carry out S tronic adaptations, Haldex servicing, MMI 3G repairs and complete timing chain replacements – including on S and RS models. We look after Audi owners from all over Małopolska: Kraków, Wieliczka, Skawina and Niepołomice.
We service every Audi generation – from the popular A4 and Q5 to the sporty S and RS models
A3 8V/8Y · A4 B8/B9 · Q5 80A/8R · Q3 8U/F3 · A6 C7/C8 · Q7 4L/4M · A1 8X/GB · A5 8T/F5
Common Audi faults: TFSI and TDI engines, S tronic gearboxes and MMI electronics
2.0 TFSI EA888 (CAEB, CDNC) – excessive oil consumption
A factory defect in EA888 Gen1/2 engines from 2008–2013 (codes CAEB, CDNC, CCZB): the piston rings are too thin, get clogged with carbon and let oil into the cylinders. Consumption often exceeds 1 litre per 1,000 km, leading to a blocked catalytic converter, turbocharger damage and the risk of the engine seizing. Before replacing anything, we measure oil consumption and carry out a cylinder leak-down test. We also check the crankcase breather (oil separator) – a fault here can increase oil consumption too, and costs much less to put right. If the rings are at fault, the lasting repair is to fit revised pistons with thicker rings. We do this in-house and can carry out a full engine rebuild if needed. If you prefer to replace the complete engine, we can do that too. You can read about our engine diagnostics and rebuilds on our car mechanic page.
2.0 TFSI EA888 in the A4 B8 – timing chain rattle on start-up
The timing chain tensioner in the A4 B8, A5 8T and Q5 8R with the 2.0 TFSI engine (2008–2012) loses tension too early on cold starts. The tell-tale signs are a metallic rattle right after starting and fault codes P0011, P0016 and P0341. Left alone, the chain can jump and bend the valves – we replace the complete kit, including tensioners and guides.
3.0 TDI V6 – timing chains at the rear of the engine (A4, A5, A6, Q5, Q7)
On 3.0 TDI engines, the timing chains sit at the rear of the engine, on the gearbox side. Stretched chains and worn tensioners cause a rattle after starting and camshaft-to-crankshaft synchronisation faults. Reaching them involves extensive dismantling, so we replace the complete set: chains, tensioners, slippers and guides. Once all the parts are on hand, the repair takes one to two working days, depending on the model.
S tronic DL501 (0B5) mechatronic unit failure – Audi A4, A5, A6, Q5
The seven-speed S tronic DL501 dual-clutch gearbox (fitted to the A4 B8/B9, A5, A6 C7 and Q5) needs regular oil changes. A failing mechatronic unit shows up as harsh shifts between 1st and 2nd or 3rd and 4th gear, limp mode and loss of the even gears. Typical fault codes are P17D8 and P174B. We carry out computer diagnostics and oil and filter changes in-house, and adapt the gearbox control unit (TCU) when it is needed. If the mechatronic unit needs repair, you leave the car with us and we arrange for a specialist to recondition it – without replacing the whole gearbox. Once it is refitted, we carry out the adaptation and a road test. You can read about oil changes and clutch replacement in S tronic and DSG gearboxes on our DSG service page.
Intake swirl flaps (P2015) – Audi 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI
The plastic swirl flaps in the intake manifold of 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI engines (A4 B8, A6, Q5, Q7) work loose or seize, which turns on the check engine light with codes P2015 and P2006. In extreme cases, broken flaps end up in the combustion chamber. We follow the manufacturer's repair procedure, replacing the flap actuator or the manifold. We don't blank off the flaps or modify the ECU software – that would mean tampering with the emission control system.
MMI 3G repair – Audi A4 B8, A6 C7, Q5 – black screen, freezing
The MMI 3G infotainment system (2008–2015: A4 B8, A5, A6 C7, Q5 8R) has typical faults: a black screen, a frozen interface, Bluetooth connections dropping out, an unresponsive control knob and satnav errors. The cause can be a failed hard drive, an overheating processor or cracked solder joints at the connectors on the main board. We diagnose the MMI unit first. If it can be repaired, we repair it; we replace the module only when a repair isn't possible. Our auto electrician handles electronic diagnostics and repairs, including coding.
Why Audi owners in Kraków choose an independent workshop over the dealer
- The same genuine VAG parts as the dealer, or proven OEM alternatives
- Full computer diagnostics with the official SFD unlock – we read data a standard OBD scanner can't see
- Two workshops in Kraków – in Nowa Huta and Prądnik Czerwony – open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM–10:00 PM
