Volkswagen is one of the most common makes on Kraków's roads – from the Golf VII doing its daily run in Krowodrza, to the Passat B8 carrying a family from Nowa Huta, to the Transporters working for businesses all over Małopolska. Each of these cars has its own quirks: the 1.4 TSI timing chain that is worth replacing before it starts rattling on cold starts, the DSG mechatronic unit that needs its oil changed properly, or the suspension that takes a beating from every Kraków pothole. We run computer diagnostics with the official SFD unlock and repair cars with knowledge of engine codes and the typical faults of each model year – not by trial and error.

Typical Volkswagen faults

Stretched timing chain on the 1.4 TSI (CAXA, EA111)

1.4 TSI engines with the CAXA code – fitted to the Golf V and VI, Touran I and Passat B7 – are known for a factory timing chain defect. From as early as 80,000–100,000 km, a typical rattle appears on cold starts along with camshaft timing fault codes (P0016, P0341). We replace the chain together with a complete set of guides and tensioners, using timing locking tools and a dial gauge, so there is no risk of the valve timing being set wrong. You'll find details of the work and timing drive replacement prices on our car mechanic page.

DSG DQ200 mechatronic unit – juddering and limp mode on the Golf VII 1.4 TSI

The dry-clutch 7-speed DSG DQ200, fitted to the Golf VII 1.4 TSI 125–150 PS, is one of this model's best-known weak spots. Juddering when pulling away, delayed gear engagement and a sudden switch to limp mode often appear after just 60,000–80,000 km. A worn clutch causes similar symptoms, so we start with diagnostics. We replace clutches and carry out gearbox adaptations in-house. If the mechatronic unit is at fault, you leave the car with us and we arrange its repair at a specialist workshop. Our DSG service page explains how we service these gearboxes.

Blocked DPF and EGR valve – Passat B7/B8 2.0 TDI

The Passat B7/B8 with the 2.0 TDI 150 PS engine is built mainly for long journeys – on short city trips, the DPF clogs faster than it can regenerate on its own. On top of that, a carbon-fouled EGR valve speeds up soot build-up. We carry out forced service regeneration, and ultrasonically clean or replace the EGR valve and its cooler. If too much ash has built up in the filter, we arrange chemical cleaning at a Bosch Service workshop. We don't cut out DPFs. You can read more about when regeneration is enough and when cleaning is needed on our DPF cleaning page.

Dual-mass flywheel – VW Transporter T6 and Caddy 2.0 TDI

Transporter T6 and Caddy owners with the 2.0 TDI know that a dull thud on start-up and vibration at idle can point to a worn dual-mass flywheel (DMF) and clutch. Before replacing the flywheel, we check its play and noise, because the starter motor, for example, can cause similar symptoms. We fit LuK and Sachs kits. Our car mechanic replaces clutches in manual gearboxes; for DSG clutches, see our DSG service page.

Why VW owners choose us instead of the dealer

  • The same genuine VAG parts as the dealer, or proven OEM alternatives
  • Full computer diagnostics with the official SFD unlock – we read data a standard OBD scanner can't see
  • Two workshops in Kraków – in Nowa Huta and Prądnik Czerwony – open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM–10:00 PM
