Check engine light on, car won't start, or the battery keeps going flat when parked? We find the cause first – with computer diagnostics and measurements – and only then replace parts.
A modern car has dozens of control units constantly exchanging data, so an auto electrician without proper diagnostics is just guessing. As auto electricians, we repair electrics on all makes – including hybrids and electric cars – at both workshops: in Nowa Huta and Prądnik Czerwony. We diagnose VAG group cars with the official SFD unlock.
Electrical faults our auto electrician fixes
Check engine light on
We read the fault memory of all control units, not just the engine, and check live data. A fault code is a lead, not a verdict – it points to a circuit, not a specific part. Only a measurement shows whether the sensor, the wiring or the control unit is to blame.
Car won't start or the battery keeps going flat
We test the battery and the charging system, and charge or replace a weak battery – in cars with start-stop, together with registration in the control unit.
Starter won't turn, alternator not charging
We check the starting and charging system and replace a faulty starter motor, alternator or ignition switch.
Diesel hard to start, petrol engine running rough
We replace glow plugs and spark plugs – as a full set – and the electric fuel pump.
Window, lock, wipers or blower not working
First we check the circuit – fuse, power supply and control – and then replace what's damaged: the window regulator, door lock, wiper mechanism, blower motor or radiator fan.
Light out, steering fault after a repair
We replace bulbs and complete lamps. After steering repairs we carry out the steering rack adaptation, without which the power steering and driver assistance systems don't work properly. On request, we also code retrofitted equipment and activate features supported by the manufacturer.

A car with start-stop has an EFB or AGM battery and a sensor that monitors its condition. Based on its readings, the energy management control unit decides how hard to charge the battery and when to switch the engine off at a standstill. After a battery replacement, the control unit must be told the new battery's capacity, technology and manufacturer – in VAG cars this is stored in the gateway module. Audi always requires this registration; on Volkswagen, Skoda and SEAT it depends on the model. Without registration, the car charges the new battery as if it were the old one.
That's why, when replacing a battery, we check which type the manufacturer specified and fit the right one: an EFB battery can be replaced with an EFB or AGM, but an AGM only with an AGM, and a conventional battery in a start-stop car wears out quickly. After the replacement, start-stop may not work for a few hours, and some functions, such as automatic window closing, have to be re-initialised – we do this before handing the car back.
If the fault turns out to be mechanical, such as the alternator drive belt or the injectors, our car mechanic will deal with it. Radiator fan or AC blower not working? See also car air conditioning service.
Questions for our auto electrician
How much does car computer diagnostics cost?
The price is in the price list. The battery test is free, and so is the repair quote after diagnosis.
How much does battery replacement with coding cost?
You'll find the labour charge in the price list. The battery costs extra, depending on the technology (EFB or AGM) and capacity specified for your car. In cars with start-stop, we register the new battery in the control unit. We test the old one free of charge first, so a healthy battery isn't replaced unnecessarily.
Check engine light is on – can I keep driving?
If the light stays on steadily, the car drives normally and there are no other warnings, you can drive carefully to a workshop: book diagnostics. If it flashes, break off your journey: this usually means misfires, which can damage the catalytic converter. If the car judders or loses power, stop and call for assistance. Read more in our article on the check engine light.
Will a car with the check engine light on pass the vehicle inspection in Poland?
Probably not. At the Polish roadworthiness inspection (badanie techniczne, often called przegląd techniczny), carried out at an authorised vehicle inspection station (stacja kontroli pojazdów, SKP), the inspector checks the warning light, the OBD self-tests (monitors) and the fault memory. A serious fault reported by OBD in a petrol car, and stored emissions-related fault codes in a diesel, are classed as serious defects (usterki poważne), so the car fails the inspection.
The battery drains when the car is parked – what could it be?
Most often a worn battery or excessive current draw while parked, when one of the control units doesn't go to sleep. We start with a battery test, and if the battery is fine, we look for what is draining it.
Battery warning light on while driving – what should I do?
The battery isn't being charged. The cause can be the alternator, its regulator, the belt or the wiring. The car will only keep going as long as there's energy left in the battery, so drive straight to a workshop.
What are the symptoms of worn glow plugs?
Long cranking when cold, rough running right after starting and white or grey smoke. A glow plug light that stays on or flashes while driving, however, indicates an engine management fault, not necessarily a problem with the glow plugs.
Do you repair hybrid and electric cars?
Yes. We work on high-voltage systems in plug-in hybrids and electric cars – including GTE, eHybrid and iV versions, as well as Volkswagen ID., Skoda Enyaq and Cupra Born models – and hold the required qualifications.
Do you code retrofits and activate features?
Yes, as a separate service at your request. We code equipment that has been retrofitted and activate features the manufacturer supports for the car. Once we connect our diagnostic equipment, we can check what can be enabled on your model.
Can you diagnose new VW, Audi, Skoda and SEAT models?
Yes. Since 2020, coding and adaptations on new VAG models have been locked by SFD protection. We unlock it the official way, online, through the manufacturer's system – without bypassing the protection.
